Opossums are the most misunderstood animal. They don't like confrontation, so given a chance to escape from a situation, they will. Opossums are marsupials and carry their young in a pouch. Then, as the young get older, the mom carries them on her back. They like to eat fruit, especially grapes, they like slugs, and will raid cat food/dog food dishes left outside. If you should come across a dead opossum and it is safe to do so, please check the pouch (if the opossum is female), for babies - even though the mom has died and the babies appear lifeless - can sometimes be revived. Please call the center (604)852-9173) for instructions as they need to be in care as soon as possible.
